Museum Location

310 Broadway, in downtown Valley Falls.

Museum Hours

Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Volunteers are available during these hours for guided tours. You may also see the museum by appointment - call Betty Jane at 785-945-3576 or Gary at 785-945-3231 to set up an appointment.

The Shrine Church

The church was relocated to a location just west of the museum in 2014. Built in 1857, it is the first Lutheran Church building built in Kansas. It is open by appointment (see museum contacts above). Admission is free.

We want your VFHS yearbooks!

Please don’t toss your Valley Falls High School yearbook/annual in the trash! The Historical Society would welcome books, especially for the years 1936, 1962, 1963, 1965, 1966, 1974-1979, 1989-1994. They can be brought to the museum, or call Betty Jane Wilson, society president, at 785-945-3576.

Statement of Purpose - Valley Falls Historical Society

The purpose of this Society shall be to bring together those people primarily interested in the history of Valley Falls and Delaware Township [Jefferson County, Kansas].
The Society's major function will be to discover and collect any material which may help to establish or illustrate the history and this area: It's pre-history, exploration, settlement, development, and activities in peace and war; its progress in population, wealth, education, arts, transportation, business activity, and manufacturing.
It will collect such items as histories, genealogies, obituaries, biographies, reminiscences, letters, diaries, charts, surveys, church, school and cemetery records, either in the original or as copies, and material objects illustrative of life, conditions, events, and activities of the past and present.
The Society will copperate with the State Historical Society and the Jefferson County Historical Society in collecting and preserving materials of historical significance so this material may be available to those who wish that information and for those engaged in research.
